Permalink. i have a lenovo e330 and had to update the bios firmware this technic worked with an ubuntu i want to add that i had to modify the boot option to boot in legacy mode with the quick boot disable. This is a bios update, there should be no reason to need windows for this. you can package it for windows users to make it easier for them, but to leave linux without the unpackaged files is just lazy on lenovo's end and makes me not want to buy from them next time.. If you cannot save the bios settings in lenovo laptop, most probably you are impacted with the recent bug in ubuntu 17.10. basically, several lenovo and some ace devices have troubles changing the bios settings. the issue is critical and canonical has temporarily removed ubuntu 17.10 iso downloads..
