LTSP pada Linux adalah paket add-on dari linux yang memungkinkan banyak user bekerja pada sebuah komputer. Seluruh aplikasi berjalan pada server dan terminal hanya menangani input dan output. Thin Client atau thinstation yang juga dikenal dengan X- terminal. 

Cara Kerja:

1. Pada saat komputer client melakukan booting dari loca device (harddisk, CD-ROM, USB, Floppy, Lancard) ia memuat kernel Linux serta melakukan inisasi terhadap peralatan di PC Client.
2. Kernel melakukan mengkonfigurasikan perangkat jaringan (dengan mekanisme Etherboot, Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) atau NetBoot) client merequest IP Address dari LTSP Server melalui protokol DHCP (server). Kemudian memuat Linux kernel dari preconfigured Linux Image (misal net.nbi atau vmlinuz.0) menggunakan protokol TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protokol) yang telah berjalan pada services LTSP Server. Kemudian server menentukan path dari linkungan untuk chroot setiap client. Ini dilakukan oleh protokol NFS (Network File System). Lalu client melakukan mounts (pengenalan dan penerapann) path dari root-nya itu.
